The infrastructure which cherished Italian-made suits, gala balls, fast and expensive cars, and watching the daily stock market are gone. Mankind and the world civilization we knew vanished in the blink of an eye. The fast spreading Cape Town flu virus and subsequent vaccine saw to that. A great majority of the population disappeared seemingly overnight with only a very small percentage having a natural immunity. The remainder undergoes genetic alterations turning them into a new, savage, unrelenting, cunning, animalistic species which hunt and operate at night. It is into this world that Jack Walker finds himself suddenly thrust into. He is a sarcastic, humorous, and sometimes philosophical former Air Force pilot and trained Special Forces soldier who must first use his skills to rescue his children and then embarks on a journey to rescue his girlfriend stationed in Kuwait. At the same time, he has to deal with the aspect of being one rung down in the food chain and faces the difficulties presented by the sudden demise of mankind along with its institutions and services while protecting his children.
